SUMMARY:A Critical Reflection of Knowledge and its Liberation
DESCRIPTION:Vortrag von Rina Alluri\nModeration durch Sushila Mesquita \nThis critical discussion questions the politics of knowledge by problematizing intersectional identity markers within areas such as academia and learning spaces. It will raise questions such as: Who do we learn from? What do we learn? And how can we begin to unlearn through decolonization and liberation processes? The speaker will provide theoretical insights on coloniality while reflecting on her own positionality as a Black Indigenous Woman of Colour (BIWOC) who has been raised\, educated and worked both in the Global North and South. She will share insights from her personal and professional experiences and assert how the re-centering and re-claiming of knowledge is an ongoing effort towards structural transformation. \nDr. Rina Alluri (she/her/hers) was born in Mumbai\, India to a Filipina mother and an Indian father\, raised in Nigeria and then migrated to Vancouver\, BC Canada. She is currently Assistant Professor and Head of the Unit for Peace and Conflict Studies\, University of Innsbruck where she supports the coordination of the MA Program in Peace and Conflict Studies. She holds a PhD from the University of Basel\, Switzerland and an MA in Development Studies from the Institute of Social Studies\, the Netherlands. She is a co-founder of the BIPOC Circle\, a small initiative aimed to host spaces and explore tools that support knowledge development and capacity building. She is a yoga teacher\, soul searcher and Mama to two headstrong children.
