In this powerful and urgent documentary from Afghanistan Zainab Entezar brings viewers into the heart of women’s resistance under Taliban rule. Since their return in 2021, Afghan women have seen their basic rights – education, work, freedom of movement, and dress – systematically stripped away. Yet, from this repression, voices of defiance continue to rise.

The film follows two sisters and other courageous women as they organize protests, often filmed on smartphone cameras, risking arrest, violence, and intimidation to demand their fundamental freedoms. Through raw, unmediated footage, moments of fear, solidarity, and hope are captured.

The screening is followed by a panel discussion with the protagonist Rashmin Jooyandeh, the Afghan ambassador Manizha Bakhtari and other experts on the topic of gender apartheid.

This event is a cooperation between Cinemarkt at Brunnenpassage, Waff – West Asian Film Festival and Frauen*solidarität.
